Cover Levels

Insurers provide cover against accidental damage caused to your Building, such as being in the loft and putting your foot through the ceiling. This is usually provided as an optional extension by most insurers which usually means an extra charge is made to provide the cover.

Some insurers provide cover against the cost of breaking into and repairing an underground pipe to clear a blockage between the main sewer and the home, for which you are legally responsible.

If there is a leak in your home which will cause damage to the buildings, or a leak from the underground services pipes, then the cost of tracing and accessing the leak will be covered.

Should your home be unfit to live in due to any insured loss or damage, such as flooding, insurers will pay for the cost of alternative accommodation. In general, most insurers provide cover up to a percentage of the buildings sum insured as the maximum amount that they will pay. As some insurers give you a fixed sum insured for your buildings, while others allow you to choose the limit you require, for this comparison we have used an assumed sum insured of £100,000 or the higher sum insured if the insurers give one as standard.

If your house keys are stolen then the cost of replacing the locks of the outside doors, windows, safes and alarms of your home are covered.

An excess is the first part of a claim not covered by the Insurer. The excess stated is the insurer’s standard excess that is applied to all claims, apart from claims for subsidence.

Cover is provided against any claims for damages due to an accident which causes bodily injury or physical damage to property for which you are liable as the owner or occupier of the buildings.

Legal expenses cover will pay the legal costs and expenses of legal proceedings for claims such as death or personal injury to you or your family, purchases or hire of goods and services, infringement of your rights arising from ownership or occupation of your home and family taxation affairs.

Should you require help in a domestic emergency, such as a burst pipe, blocked drain or a broken window, then Insurers will provide a 24 hour helpline service which gives you access to a tradesman.

Following a domestic emergency where the insurer has arranged for repairs to be made. Many insurers will provide a guarantee for the repairs that are carried out. This is usually up to 12 months after the repair.
